Do you remember Arsenio Hall?
He was so funny and back in the day he used to have a talk show, and he always asked questions about “things that make you go hmmm.”
I just searched and found a list of the top 201 random questions.
Aren’t you curious?
Here are five of the top twenty (in no particular order).
- If a pig loses its voice, is it disgruntled?
- Why do croutons come in airtight packages? It’s just stale bread.
- Why do you park in a driveway and drive in a parkway?
- Why is the man who invests all your money called a broker?
And my personal favorite:
5. Why do doctors call what they do practice? Shouldn’t they be good at it by now?
See what I mean?
Are you scratching your head and thinking? Questions like that make you go hmmm.
But I have a question to add to the list?
Why does…..
…..everything look cuter in a cloche?
And I mean everything.
Look at these pumpkins. That’s it—just dollar store pumpkins in different sizes—put under a glass cloche.
And now they look like artwork.
How does that happen?
How does a simple glass dome transform even the lowly pumpkin into a masterpiece?

Easy Fall Tablescape Idea You Can Recreate In Minutes
Here’s the dining room all decked out for fall.
I was trying to figure. out a centerpiece for the dining room table and how to add a little pop of orange in this room.
And then?
My eyes spied a cloche.
So I started with this cloche.
Just one.
(total aside: kind of like when I was going to go all minimalist with the front porch.)
But the cloche was lonely.
It needed cloche friends.
And before I knew it?
I had an entire cloche table.
The cloches are layered in on the table on cutting boards, and this set of wooden bead risers that I’ve shared before.
I actually didn’t even have enough cloches, so I kind of invented them.
// spindle silo barn //
See this glass dome?
It’s actually an inverted bowl on a small white plate.
It’s kind of flat on the bottom, so it makes an awkward cloche (or a cloche with extra personality, depending on your perspective.
This idea would work so much better if I had a deeper mixing bowl, so it would look more like a dome when you flipped it over.
// distressed red barn //
And speaking of filling the cloches.
Here’s my best cloche filling tip.
I flipped the cloche upside down, filled it with pumpkins and then placed the plate on the top (like a lid) and then flipped it over.
Then I wiggled it around slightly so the pumpkins would settle into place.
You can see that cute red barn here.

Then?
To finish off the table?
I added in these little mini houses from our favorite artist.
We just restocked houses in the shop again, along with the prettiest hand-painted Christmas artwork from the same artist.
You can shop the new drop of houses and barns and churches here.
Things that make you go hmmm.
Why is the earth round, and why do kangaroos have pockets, and where do all the extra socks go?
I’m here if you need answers.
Or want to share something that makes you go hmmmm.
Or if you want to get your party table on….
….just add a few pumpkins to a cloche and you’re set.

KariAnne -- You have done it again! This is adorable! You have such a talent for putting together simple items and making them look FABULOUS! I am so excited! I have an overabundance of dollar tree pumpkins this year, and this is a perfect way to use them! I couldn't figure out how to stage the mini houses, but now that I have seen this, I will rush to order some before they sell out! Thank you for all you do!
I was just thinking about Arsenio’s talk show the other day. We were watching Coming to America. 😂 I had forgotten about that part of the show though. You’re right about the cloches. They really do make those pumpkins look super cute!!!
Haha...that is true and I just bought my first one - or I should say two. They're mini and came in a pair and I've been sticking everything that fits inside! Pretty table!
I remember Arsenio Hall. He was from Akron, Ohio I think, if I recall correctly. Will have to look at whatever happened to him. And YES to things that make you go "hmmmmm!" I love all your mom jokes. They made me smile. As did your beautiful cloche tablescape all decked out for fall!! those wooden mini houses and barns are just too cute for words.
I loved Arsenio! He was the perfect foil to Eddie Murphy during their hey day! And Cloches are my go to for adding charm to anyplace looking blah... they just look so cute with something inside. Big Hugs
‘Cloche friends’ - love it! It made me smile, Your table looks beautiful. Love the cloches and the make-shift cloche. The small houses add personality wherever they’re placed.
To me, a cloche draws the eye and adds a distinct focus on the items underneath. It almost says this item is special and I want to protect it with the cloche but in doing so it demands attention.
KariAnne, I too am a cloche lover! I use them and collect them, look for them in each and every thrift, garage etc places. Your table scape is perfect! I love how the light hits the glass! Well done 😉 Smiles, alice
I love Cloches. They make all decor look so cute. Even a plant looks cute under a Cloche. Such a pretty table setting.
Beautiful!!!
If I had cloches I'd have crashes as in kitty cats knocking them everywhere. Maybe if they were made of plastic I'd get by. Love the little houses.
Your table scape is so colorful and charming! I love cloches as well. I have a couple of clear glass ones and my daughter gave me a couple of smaller ones with smokey glass for a more moody look. I also love the little houses and buildings!
