Looking for fall porch decorating ideas? Here are some simple ideas to get your porch ready for fall with all the colors of the season.

Knock knock.

Who’s there?

It’s fall.

The back porch and I are all about fall showing up.

Don’t let the Lone Star State know, but I’m wearing a TURTLENECK. Shhhhh.

The weatherman is predicting a low of 58 tomorrow. Break out the muffler and the ski boots.

I can’t wait. I’m so excited.

In honor of the occasion, I wanted to share the back porch with you and all of my favorite things about fall. Things that are bringing me joy and inspiration and full of the wonder of the season.

Me and my turtleneck.

How is the weather where you are?

And do you need a turtleneck, too?

I won’t let Texas know. 🙂

1. I love the moment in fall when the trees start to turn the most brilliant of colors.

And then?

A few leaves drift down and cover the green grass.

(total aside: when the leaves are covering the yard and I’m raking them? The beauty of the leaves gets lost in the translation.)

2. I love the first crisp fall morning when you aren’t expecting it, and you open the door and shiver and step back inside for a scarf.

3.  I love making pumpkin seeds and sprinkling them with cinnamon and chomping on that pumpkin seed crunch.

4.  I love driving by a farmer’s market full of brightly colored orange pumpkins scattered across the field and spilling out of the barrels by the road.

5.  I love the roar of the crowd at a football game, snuggled under a plaid blanket, and hanging on every second of the final minutes of a close game.

6.  I love plaid anything.  Especially lunch boxes and umbrellas.

7.  I love the crackle of a warm fire on a cold afternoon with a Hallmark movie where the guy saves a girl’s tree farm.

8.  I love the first bite of toasted pumpkin bread covered with butter.

9.  I love when the days get shorter and it’s dark earlier and everyone comes home and there may or may not be time for a game of Monopoly.

10.  I love the first time I put on a pair of fall boots and add a turtleneck sweater and the leaves crunch when I walk.

11.  I love the colors of fall, the browns and reds and oranges and golden yellows and the beautiful, vivid display nature paints across the skyline.

12.  I love the first warm, smooth sip of coffee and the first bite of warm muffins straight from the oven.

13. I love turning on the faux fall fireplace on the television and listening to the crackle.

14. I love finding leaves in the yard and decorating with them.

15. I love the cozy hour when it falls back (like this coming week), when it gets darker so much earlier and you feel like the world is giving you permission to snuggle.

16. But most of all? I love fall because well….

… it’s next door neighbors to CHRISTMAS.

Most of all?  I love fall itself.  For all that it is and all that it will be.

This is the season for family and friends and celebration and get-togethers and thankfulness.

And I am.

Thankful that is.

Every. Single. Day. 🙂

Me too, KariAnne, me too! #13 - A couple of days ago I had a couple of cinnamon-scented tea lights burning on a side table near where my husband was sitting. He was reading. I found him with his phone propped up against the candle holders, and a YouTube fireplace video running on the screen. 😂

Love this post. I do love fall too and everything you said! But I especially love that you said you were grateful. Every. Single. Day. That is what I tell my husband because he goes off to work and I get to stay home on our little cozy ranch with all of our animals. I truly am grateful🥰 Have a fabulous day!

I live on the West Coast of Central Florida, we're still in summer mode, in the high 80's everyday. I see all the cute Fall and winter clothes on Instagram and Facebook and on you as well and just drool. I would love to be in the 50s and 60s but then again, don't envy you at all when the white flakes begin to fall and the temps drop to below freezing. So, I guess in some cases the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence but I think I'll stick to Fall colors with my capris and flip-flops.

Jan, I am on the west coast of FL as well and you are right, it is so hot here still. Looking forward to the chilly 60s and 70s. I do not miss the frigid cold at all.

Our low tonight is supposed to be 28F and we're expected to get down to 25F Tuesday night, so we are well and truly into turtleneck weather. I think October is probably a wonderful month most places in the Northern Hemisphere and it certainly is my favorite month here in the foothills of the Rockies. Our highs still get up into the 50s and the skies are the most brilliant blue. Fall is probably my favorite season, but winter follows close behind. Thanks for all the reasons for loving it and the gorgeous photos.

Me and my seven layers of clothing thank you! We were 28 degrees this morning. Important reminder for those of us who live where it gets cold fast and stays that way- put a board or something under pumpkins and decorations that are on the ground. One year I had had pumpkins (real), ceramic, and fall vegetation frozen to the ground until end of May. We tried numerous ideas and it either ended up with ceramic pieces everywhere or parts of vegetation/pumpkin sticking up. I laugh about it now, lesson learned! 🤣

Same here, lol. Upstate, Central New York. This year I already have moved all my pots, etc. indoors or behind my garden shed for the winter. Just mowed the yard, too- mulching the leaves. Leaf colors are muted this fall, due to drought. We've already had a hard frost....

I love fall most of all... The colors are amazing, life seems to start slowing down and coziness fills all aspects of life. Big Hugs

Fall is absolutely my favorite season, hands diwn! The colors are beautiful here in southwest Ohio and the temps are finally cool in the 50s and 60s during the day. I'm happy about gaining an extra hour too and truly thankful for each and every day and especially for another bday in a couple weeks! When you have the right gear to wear the cold of fall and winter and beauty of snow is magical. With Thanksgiving and Christmas coming It's the most wonderful time of year! January and February can be a bit difficult, but I'm planning some projects to work on that I can't seem to accomplish other times of year. It's all about perspective and having a thankful heart for where God has you!
